About

At the heart of the PLAY Method is one simple truth:

Your body always knows.

The PLAY Method was originally created to help adults better understand their own emotions, nervous system responses and patterns of stress — so they could respond to themselves and others with greater awareness, calm and compassion.

Because regulation is not just for children.

It shapes how we parent, teach, communicate, lead, support others and move through everyday life.

When adults feel overwhelmed, reactive, disconnected or emotionally exhausted, it can become difficult to co-regulate the children, relationships and environments around them.

The PLAY Method helps bring us back to awareness.

Not through shame, suppression or perfection — but through gentle curiosity and nervous system understanding.

Why The PLAY Method Was Created

The PLAY Method was developed through decades of lived experience, mindfulness practice, caring roles, parenting, emotional wellbeing work and trauma-informed learning.

Over time, one powerful pattern became clear:

Many adults are carrying stress, overwhelm, emotional exhaustion and nervous system dysregulation — while simultaneously trying to support children, families, workplaces and communities.

Most people were never taught how to:

  • understand their emotions,

  • recognise nervous system overwhelm,

  • slow down before reacting,

  • or respond to themselves with compassion.

Instead, many learned to suppress, push through, disconnect or stay in survival mode.

The PLAY Method offers another way.

A practical and reflective framework that helps adults build self-awareness first — creating safer, calmer and more connected relationships with children and the people around them.
